How this works
Everything on Stuff was posted in public, by someone else, to an Upper Valley town mailing list. UV Finds reads those lists and puts what people post in one place. We did not write any of it, and we do not sell any of it.
Where the listings come from
52 Sympa mailing lists, run by towns and community groups across 93 Upper Valley towns. Anyone subscribed to one of those lists already receives these posts by email; the archives are public on the web. We read the same archives, sort the posts into for-sale, free and wanted, and keep them listed for 60 days. There are 2,836 listings in the window right now.
Nothing is scraped from a site that asks not to be, and nothing is bought from a data broker. If a post reached your inbox, it is the same post you see here.
What is stripped before anything is published
Phone numbers and street addresses are removed from the body of every post before it goes on the site, and email addresses never appear at all. That masking runs on the way in, not at page load, so it applies to the short quote on a listing and to the full "as posted" text alike.
Masking is automatic, which means it can be wrong. If something of yours got through, tell us and we will fix the listing and the underlying record.
How a message reaches the person who posted
The form on a listing sends through a relay. The message goes out from us, and we give the person who posted your email address so they can reply to you directly. Anything you write in the message reaches them too, so a phone number is shared only if you choose to put one there.
Their address is never given to you, and no address is published anywhere on this site. Nobody but the two of you is copied on any of it.
There is no account to make and no tracking on these pages. We keep a short log of which listing was contacted and when, which is only there to stop one address flooding the same post.
Taking a post down
Every post is yours, not ours. Email us and we will remove it — the listing, and the record behind it.
Ask us to remove a post Mark something sold, or edit it
You can also ask to be left out of the site entirely, in which case nothing you post to any of these lists is published here again.
What this is not
It is not a marketplace. There is no checkout, no fee, no rating, no messaging inbox, and nothing is held in escrow. Two neighbours agree between themselves, exactly as they would have over the mailing list. Anything that goes wrong in that arrangement is between them — we only carried the message.
